The Play Collection Newborn Starter Kit (all prints) - 8 Nappies

Regular price £117.00 Sale

Our kits contain everything you need to get started with cloth nappies. You need around 20 nappies for full time use but this smaller kit will help ease you in slowly.

This kit contains:

  • a nappy bucket

  • two laundry bags (Which go inside your bucket. Just lift the bag out of the bucket and into the washing machine. Job done.)

  • a nappy storage bag of your choice (please let us know your preference in the notes when you place your order)

  • biodegradable liners

  • 8 newborn nappies from the Happy Collection (and 16 bamboo mix newborn inserts)

You can buy a starter kit in newborn (birth to around six months) or one size (approx eight weeks to potty training).

If you're getting started with reusable nappies then it's good to know that:

-Reusable nappies are simple. There can be a lot of overwhelming information and advice online. We promise that if you can put on a bib, you can put on a nappy.

-It's fine to build up slowly. You'll need about 20 nappies to use reusables full-time. Lots of parents build their 'stash' by buying one or two at a time, or asking for them as gifts for birthdays, baby showers etc. You can read more about the 'upfront cost' here.

Our nappies are called pocket nappies. There’s a pocket at the back of the waterproof nappy, where you put the absorbent inserts. Each of our nappies come with two bamboo mix inserts.

Our newborn nappies fit from about 5lb to six months. After that, babies move into one size nappies, which last through to potty training.

Our newborn nappies are really easy to put on as they have hook and loop ('velcro') fastenings. Perfect for quick and easy middle-of-the-night changes!

The popper system on the front of the nappy allows the nappy to grow with your baby. You simply snap the poppers together to make the nappy super-small. As baby grows, undo the poppers so that the nappy grows with baby.

When your baby is teeny tiny, you will normally only need to use one insert, which should last up to about four hours during the day. Once your baby starts to grow (which is always too quick!) and you find the nappy is not lasting as long, it's time to add the other insert for more absorbency.

If you want you can use a liner. This sits between the nappy and baby’s bottom.  Liners aren’t essential but many parents choose to use them if they are worried about stains. When baby is older, these come into their own for poo disposal. (In the early days newborn poo can just be put straight in the machine).

You are going to love using our cloth nappies, so much better for your baby. Not to mention our world.

Features include:

  • Popper system to the front

  • Waterproof lining - no need for anything extra

  • Gusset which helps keeps the poop inside the nappy and helps with those poo-explosions

  • Completely free of nasties

  • Pre-washing before use helps increase the absorbency of your nappies. Follow the washing instructions below and repeat up to three times.

  • After use, knock any solids into the toilet (or remove the biodegradable liner if you have used one). Fold back the laundry tabs to prevent the hook and loop sticking to other fabrics. Put the used nappy in the nappy bucket until wash day. (You don't have to worry about solids until baby starts weaning - newborn poo is water soluble and can go straight into the wash.)

  • It can help to put the nappies on a cold rinse before washing as this ensures all the solids have been washed away before the washing cycle.

  • Your nappies can be washed at 60°C, although may parents find 40°C is sufficient.

  • Use your usual detergent. Our nappies are designed to fit in with you, not the other way around!

  • Don't use any fabric conditioner or bleaching agents.

  • Your nappies are best dried naturally, although you can put them on a low setting in the tumble dryer. Natural is best for your nappies and the planet too.

  • Do be careful if they have been near heat such as the tumble dryer or radiator and don't stuff the inserts back in straight away. The heat can weaken the elastic and cause it to snap.

  • If you do need to use barrier/nappy rash cream, ensure you use a liner.
