Postage price increase...but not at Baba+Boo

Royal Mail are always increasing prices and not only that but the way they measure things. Seems them lot like to use their rulers a lot.

The price increases that came into force at the beginning of April are fairly steep, which we just weren't happy to pass on to our lovely customers.

So we've done a bit of jiggery pokery with our thinking caps on and we have worked out ways of changing things our end so they prices can stay the same for you.

We always care about the pennies in your purse and we always will.

Great British Nappy Hunt - Real Nappy Week

A group of 15 UK cloth nappy retailers have got together to create a Great British Nappy Hunt across their websites for Real Nappy Week, which is 15th to 22 April. We are excited to part of this.

Visitors to the Nappy Hunt sites can find out more about the benefits of using cloth nappies by seeking out the answers to clues hidden amongst the pages of the participating websites. With lots of daily prizes to be won, this competition looks to be lots of fun.

Mother & Baby Bronze Award!!

All of our efforts were rewarded last week when their nappies were awarded a Bronze Mother & Baby award.

We were up against a number of large international companies for the accolade. We picked up a Bronze award in the Best Reusable Nappy category at a ceremony at the Hilton Mayfair Hotel in London.

We were over the moon to be recognised alongside some of the biggest names in cloth nappies. It means even more because the award was decided on the basis of user testing. That means real mums rate our nappies as among the best on the market.

Our rand new autumn/winter range of nappies, t-shirts and other accessories was also launched last week. It's a very exciting time!

Take a Clothee Break - New Opportunities For Mums

Clothee Break is the new scheme from Baba+Boo which allows mums to sell Baba+Boo products to their friends and earn a commission.

Managing director of Baba+Boo, Eve Bell, explains, “I run my business around my children and don’t see why many other mums can’t do the same.

“When we did some research last year we found that people would rather get advice about cloth nappies from friends, so we’ve been working hard to create the Clothee Break scheme to harness the passion and knowledge of cloth mums and allow them to make some money at the same time.

“The Clothee Break scheme can fit easily into your life, with no pressure to hold a minimum number of events or sell a certain amount. It’s as much about de-mystifying cloth nappies for mums who don’t already use them as it is about selling products.”

Using the party plan model, a Clothee Break agent would arrange a get-together at a child-friendly venue – perhaps a soft play centre or at someone’s house – and take along their kit of beautiful Baba+Boo items.

People could place their orders with the agent and pay, then the stock is delivered to the agent within five working days for them to hand out to the customers.

Eve continues, “Clothee Break is central to my ethos for Baba+Boo. We already use a group of mumpreneurs to make some of our items and provide some of the core services we need for the business, such as for our PR and social media support, and we wanted to extend the opportunities to other mums.”

The start-up costs are small. Kits are created by each agent according to what they think they’d like to show and the items are purchased by them at a discount. The cost of the kit can even be offset against sales.

Better Postage Costs For Our Lovely Customers

We've recently reviewed our postage costs and we are delighted to tell you that we now have a fixed rate of postage for UK orders.

So where we once had a complicated weight calculated postage chart, there is now a set charge of £3.50 per order. So buying a 10 pack of nappies will save you over a fiver..and if you decide to buy a starter pack, the saving to customers will be over £7.00!

Our lovely overseas customers will also be getting some huge savings. We have negotiated huge savings with our freight partner and the savings for sending bulk nappies overseas has reduced by over 50%.

We aim to keep the pennies in your purse where we can...until you decide to spend them on more nappies. We know how addicted to nappies you lot are!

Success at the Salford Business Awards

The continued success of online real nappy boutique Baba+Boo was cemented last month, with a business accolade for managing director, Eve Bell.

Eve was declared runner up in the prestigious Entrepreneur Of The Year category of the Salford Business Awards, run by the University of Salford and sponsored by Talk Talk.

The awards received over 40 entries entries and the shortlist for Entrepreneur Of The Year was narrowed down to 4 before the awards ceremony. All shortlisted entrants were interviewed by a panel of judges before the final decision was made.

Eve says, “I’m absolutely stunned. I couldn’t believe I’d even got as far as the shortlist, never mind be awarded with a runner up in the award.
“Of course, I’m proud of Baba+Boo and how far we’ve come in the last two years, but I never thought for a minute that I could win a business award.”

The judges were impressed with Baba +Boo’s excellent vision, leadership, personality and potential for huge development. The judges also thought Baba+Boo was an interesting and stimulating business.

Baba+Boo Do Halloween

We are so excited to have some items for Halloween this year..it's such a fun occasion.

Mama Baba+Boo isn't very fond of fancy dress (boring I know!) and wanted to have a range of super-stylish items that just add that little Halloween twist. Halloween doesn't need to be garish!

The shoot for this was fun in some parts but Boo is becoming more and more of a diva...she actually put her hand up to the camera and said 'no pictures'!!

We wonder what we have created...she must know how beautiful she is..

Charity Tuesday

After what seems like a long wait and a lot of suspense, it has been announced that Baba+Boo cloth nappies won the gold award in the 'Best Reusable Nappy' category in the Loved By Parents awards.

Eve also came runner up in the Fab Woman of the Year award which is just amazing. Out of over 300 mums in business, to be in the final 5 is brilliant and slightly mind-blowing that Laura Tenison of JoJo Maman Bebe has read all about Baba+Boo and our dreams.

We have been nominated for the Mumpreneur Uk awards. We are nominated for 'Best Online Business' and 'Best Mumpreneur Product'.

These are judged by Duncan Bannatyne and we are so excited that he will look through our business model and dreams for the future...hopefully he will see the passion and drive we have to get more babies bums into cloth nappies.

Two award nominations for Worsley business woman

Manchester business woman and mumpreneur Eve Bell (35) has been shortlisted for two prestigious internet awards.

Loved By Parents (LBP) is a powerful parenting website and Eve and her business, Baba + Boo, have been shortlisted in two categories in their annual awards.

Eve said: “I’m delighted that I’ve been shortlisted for not one, but two awards. I was over the moon when I found out that I’d made the final ten in the Fab Woman of the Year. There were more than 300 entries!

“The competition is stiff, but I’m just so pleased to be shortlisted. It’s a real boost because I’ve worked so hard to get this far, and still have a long way to go.”

Fab Woman of the Year is an award for women who have come up with a business as a result of being a mother. More than 300 entries were received for the category. The current list of ten women will be cut in half by an internet vote, with the winner chosen by renowned mumpreneur and business woman, Laura Tenison of Jojo Maman Bebe.

Tina Summer, Editor of Loved By Parents said: ”It has been inspiring to read about how many women are trying to juggle home and work life. Out of 306 entries Eve Bell is one of our deserving finalists. Eve has worked hard around her family life to establish and maintain Babaandboo.
“It is great to see such a dedicated mother trying to encourage people to use reusable
Nappies with such passion and enthusiasm. We wish her the best of luck in the final voting stages.”

Baba + Boo, Eve’s boutique baby business, has also been shortlisted in the best real nappy category following testing by a panel of parents.

Eve launched the business in 2009 because she struggled to find funky nappies for her
daughter and thought the few mainstream brands that existed were expensive.
Since then the brand has grown to encompass not only nappies but clothes and
accessories, mainly designed by Eve. Not bad for a business which was started in Eve’s
spare room and run in the evenings once her children, Seth (3) and Louisa (2), were in bed.
Bucking the current economic trend, Baba + Boo has expanded at a rate of knots. Sales
have increased 125 per cent since she started the business in 2009.

Her previous experience as a buyer has helped Eve source quality products and suppliers. And the nappies have gone down a storm, receiving glowing reviews on independent websites and praise for their realistic price as well as funky designs.
